Lucid recalled 27,185 vehicles because of a faulty exterior lighting circuit that may trigger a fire, warning owners of 2022-2026 model year Lucid Air sedans to park outside away from structures until the repair is completed.
According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) filing, flawed software logic governing the eFuse that should protect the low-voltage circuits that power the car’s exterior lights is malfunctioning. This can cause “low voltage exterior lighting circuit to provide insufficient overcurrent protection.” When this happens the circuit continues to exceed amperage thresholds, which may cause the circuit to overheat and increase the risk of a vehicle fire.
Lucid already created “remedy software” for this issue, sending it via an over-the-air software update to vehicles in July. Cars running that softwares version or later are adequately protected against thermal events on the lighting circuits, the company said. However, more than 6,000 vehicle owners have not yet installed the update.
Those who have not yet installed the update should do so. Because the fix is delivered over the air, no service visit is required, officials noted. Until the update is installed, owners are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures. Lucid will send a written notification to owners who have not installed the updated software by Oct. 16.
