Land Rover Recalls Vehicles Over Unlit Gear Shifters

Land Rover recalled 251 SUVs because their gear shifters may not light up. Federal law requires a car’s gear shifter to clearly indicate which gear the vehicle is in, even in darkness.

The company tells federal safety regulators that, on certain days earlier this year, factory workers may have installed defective gear shifter modules that allow moisture in. Moisture can short out the lights inside the modules.

Dealers will fix the problem by replacing the gear shifter module.

Dealers never charge for recall repairs.
