The Kia EV6 GT electric vehicle is one of the most impressive new cars of 2022. It’s a practical SUV with lots of living space. It looks better than almost anything else from a mainstream manufacturer. And it can boast acceleration numbers exotic car manufacturers strained to reach in the pre-electric era.
It also comes with free fuel for about 3,500 miles.
Kia has announced that EV6 GT owners now qualify for 1,000 kWh of free charging at Electrify America charging stations in the first three years of ownership. Depending on your driving style, that equates to between 3,500 and 4,000 miles of free driving.
The EV6 GT Boasts Supercar Numbers and SUV Space
The EV6, if you haven’t encountered one, is an unusual beast. It straddles the line between SUV and wagon and does it with a mean face and aggressively bulging shoulders. Inside, clean, minimalist lines predominate. It’s a sharp look, inside and out.
Kia builds a wide selection of EV6 models, available in rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations and power levels. Prices start at $48,500 (plus a mandatory $1,295 destination charge), and some models are good for up to 310 miles of range.
But the GT isn’t some models. It’s a top-of-the-line, maxed-out version with 576 horsepower that leaps from 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. It will probably be a relatively rare sight. Kia lists the price at $61,400 before destination, but rarity will push that figure higher.
Free Charging on Electrify America’s Network
Whatever buyers pay, they won’t pay for electricity out in public. Most EV owners do most of their charging at home. But public chargers are useful when on a longer trip.
Kia already had an agreement in place with Electrify America for most EV6 owners to get up to 1,000 kWh of free charging on the company’s charging network, which it calls “the largest open DC fast charging network in the U.S.”
The word “open” is doing some work there. Tesla’s Supercharger network is larger but open only to Tesla owners.
