Jaguar and Land Rover have recalled 170,169 vehicles because they can lose all drive power and exterior lighting.
The recall applies to mild hybrid versions of the:
- 2019-2024 Range Rover Sport
- 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport
- 2020-2023 Range Rover Evoque
- 2020-2024 Land Rover Defender
- 2020-2024 Range Rover
- 2021-2022 Jaguar E-Pace
- 2021-2024 Jaguar F-Pace
- 2021-2024 Land Rover Discovery
- 2021-2024 Range Rover Velar
The company tells federal safety officials that an electrical converter in the vehicles’ hybrid systems can fail due to a faulty microchip. If that happens, drivers will see a warning reading “Stop Safely Electrical Fault Detected.”
If the driver doesn’t stop, the vehicle will coast to a stop and lose exterior lighting.
The company is aware of no injuries or accidents, but nearly 6,000 field claims related to the problem. It is still developing a remedy.
When the solution comes, it will be free. By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.
Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. While automakers try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair, they rarely get them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. To find out if your car is one of them, check the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
