- Kia dealers have just 100 Soul hatchbacks left for sale.
- There is no direct replacement planned.
Kia decided to discontinue the Soul crossover late last year, and dealers are now down to the last handful of units. There are just 100 2025 Soul units left on lots across the country, marking a quiet end for the small, boxy Kia.
The Soul hit the market in 2010 at a reasonable price, helping Kia sell more than 1.5 million units since. It gained a surprisingly strong cult following, with owners citing its generous interior space, good value, and funky vibes as big selling points.
While it enjoyed a string of successful years, Soul sales barely topped 50,000 last year, around a third of the units moved in its heyday. That said, it was one of the brand’s most recognizable models and will leave a hole in the automaker’s lineup.
Kia has no plans to replace the Soul, leaving it without an attractively priced entry-level hatchback. The new K4 could be a reasonable stand-in, but it’s almost $5,000 more expensive, and the vibes are decidedly more straight-laced, reflecting Kia’s evolving image.
Eric Watson, Kia’s vice president of sales, told industry publication Automotive News that, “the Soul was a very fun car that brought a lot of personality to the brand, and it drove awareness. The brand has evolved to be far more than what the Soul stood for. But it certainly made its mark at the right time and gave Kia a big opportunity to grow volume and acquire a lot more customers.”
Kia sold an electric version of the Soul for a few years, but the model’s aerodynamics make range a challenge. Maintaining the model’s value-forward pricing would also likely be a hurdle, as the upcoming subcompact Kia EV3 is expected to have a starting price in the mid-$30,000 range, rising to almost $50,000 in top trims.
