Hyundai recalled 135,386 Santa Fe SUVs from model years 2024-2025 because a wiring problem can create a fire risk.
The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that a cover over wiring terminals in the starter motor may not have been installed correctly. In an accident, those wires could contact the cooling fan assembly, causing a short circuit and a fire.
Hyundai is not aware of the issue happening to a customer’s car, but says it occurred during a recent crash test.
Dealers will inspect and reinstall the cover if necessary to correct the problem. Recall repairs are always free.
