Bucking the trend
In a sea of crossovers and SUVs, the Honda Accord is a sedan that holds its own. Honda’s midsize sedan is all-new for 2018, and its combination of efficient yet powerful engines, helpful convenience and safety tech, and proven value combine to help make the new Accord the best midsize sedan on the market. We were so impressed with the new Accord that we named it the Midsize Car Best Buy of 2018 and followed that up by naming it the Overall Best Buy, too.
Not only is the spacious Accord filled with smart, thoughtful features and a pleasure to drive, but it’s backed by a decades-deep reputation for dependability, reliability and value. The Accord is also defined and distinguished by its uniquely nuanced refinement, another facet of the car that got even better for 2018. From the feel of the door handle to the response of the gas pedal, the Accord just feels good. And those subconsciously satisfying details are key reasons the Accord remains a favorite family sedan.
Driving It
A few driving impressions from our full review: "The 2018 Honda Accord expresses itself differently depending upon trim level. The standard 192-horsepower 1.5-liter engine offers strong off-the-line performance and acceptable levels of power for passing and merging, but the biggest advantage is its class-leading 33-mpg combined fuel-economy figure. Moving up to the 2.0-liter turbo brings a more robust response, with 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque available as low as 2,200 rpm."

Compelling Technology
Honda expanded the Accord’s already long list of safety features for 2018. The Honda Sensing suite of safety features, standard on all Accords, includes lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, and traffic-sign recognition. There’s also blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, and a monitor that can sense driver fatigue. The infotainment system, once a weak spot for the Accord, has come so far that it’s now among the best in the industry. It’s as easy to use as a smartphone. Speaking of smartphones, you can use HondaLink telematics for remote engine start, remote lock/unlock, geofencing and stolen vehicle tracking, and you can turn the Accord into a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Powertrain Options
Even though the V6 is gone for 2018, odds are you won’t miss it. The top engine is now a stout turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, with either a 10-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual. The base engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that uses a continuously variable transmission. The 2018 Honda Accord will also be available with a gas-electric hybrid powertrain that’s lighter and more efficient than the 2017 version. Because the battery pack has been relocated, the Hybrid’s trunk size will be the same as in gas-powered Accords.
Build and Price
The 2018 Honda Accord sedan starts pretty well equipped at under $25,000 and nears $37,000 for an Accord Touring with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and 10-speed automatic, leather interior, head-up display, and a 450-watt premium audio system, among other features.
