General Motors recalled 306,511 Chevrolet and Buick subcompact and compact SUVs due to a possible rearview camera defect. The automaker recalled the following:
- 2024-2025 Buick Encore GX
- 2024-2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer
- 2026 Buick Encore GX
- 2025 Chevrolet Trax
- 2024-2025 Buick Envista
A plasma cleaning treatment used to prepare the camera housing assembly could weaken the adhesive bond that holds the assembly together. Rearview cameras in the above models may display a distorted or blank image. Only standard rearview cameras are affected, not those with Surround Vision cameras. GM said it is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem.
Dealers will inspect and replace the rearview camera if necessary. This fix will be free of charge.
Millions of cars are recalled, sometimes more than once. While automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they don’t always reach everyone.
