- The recall covers certain 2022-2026 Toyota Sienna minivans.
- Most affected vehicles will receive a software update.
- Approximately 200 Siennas will need a replacement second-row seatback.
Toyota is recalling 228,367 Sienna minivans due to an issue with the second-row seats. In certain cases, the rear seats might not lock in place, thereby increasing the risk of injury during a crash. The defect could cause the seatback to unlock when it should remain securely in place. The Sienna is one of our Best Family Vehicles for 2026, making this recall especially relevant for families who regularly use the second row for daily commuting with children.
What Toyota Sienna Owners Need to Know
Toyota plans to fix the defect with a software update for most of the affected vehicles. The update will adjust how the vehicle’s safety system controls the seat belt pretensioners, which tighten during a crash to protect occupants. Repairs will be free of charge for owners, as is the case with every recall.
A smaller group of 200 Siennas equipped with the Mobility as a Service (MaaS) package will need a different repair. The MaaS package is typically used for ride-share and fleet services. In that case, Toyota dealers will replace both second-row seat backs with updated versions that use a redesigned recliner device.
Toyota expects to notify affected owners in December.
