Ford has issued a recall for 456,565 small trucks and SUVs because they can unexpectedly lose drive power. The recall affects Maverick compact trucks from model years 2022-2023 and Bronco Sport SUVs from model years 2021-2024.
Ford tells federal safety officials that the cars’ onboard computers can’t detect some changes in battery charge. That can leave the vehicle treating a near-empty battery like a full battery. The cars can lose accessory power, stall, or fail to restart after stopping.
Ford is aware of 917 warranty claims over the issue but no accidents or injuries.
The solution is easy – dealers will update the software that detects battery status. Software updates are among the quickest repair appointments, and dealers never charge for recall-related repairs.
