Ford is recalling 10,001 vehicles due to piston domes that can crack, which can then cause engine failure and loss of power.
A loss of power increases the risk of a crash, although Ford officials say they are unaware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue. Owners may receive warnings including a check engine light, engine noise, or misfire. The recall affects the following vehicles:
As of Aug. 12, there have been 38 engine failures at Ford plants and 13 engine failures in the field that may relate to this issue, according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). To remedy the issue, Ford dealerships will inspect the engines for cracked pistons and replace the engine long block, if necessary. As with all recall repairs, the fix is free.
