Over 66,000 Ford and Lincoln hybrid SUVs are being recalled due to their failure to emit a warning sound designed to alert pedestrians of nearby electrified vehicles driving at slow speeds. This action includes 18,242 2025-2027 Ford Explorers and 48,141 2024-2027 Lincoln Nautiluses.
These vehicles may fail to emit pedestrian warning sounds required by law. An error in the audio processing software may occur randomly when the vehicle is driven below 20 mph in electric mode. If pedestrians can’t hear an approaching vehicle, there’s a chance of increased risk of injury to those people.
Drivers may see a message on the instrument panel reading, “Pedestrian Sounder Fault. Service Now.” Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue; however, there have been 65 warranty claims filed related to it.
Owners of Nautilus hybrid models with the 28-speaker audio system will be notified to take their vehicle to a Lincoln dealer to have the Digital Signal Processor (DSP) module replaced. DSP software version 2.24 and above will include improvements to the sound system.
Additional remedies for non-DSP-related factors are still in development. As with all recall repairs, the service is free.
Millions of cars are recalled, sometimes more than once. While automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they don’t always reach everyone. To check whether your vehicle might be subject to a recall, use the easy tool at our recall center. All you need is your VIN, license plate, or year, make, and model of your car to get started.
