Ford has recalled 4,653 Maverick trucks and Bronco Sport SUVs from various model years due to a potentially defective lower control-arm ball joint. Vehicles that were produced before June 1, 2025, are included in this recall. The affected model years are as follows:
- 2022-2026 Ford Maverick
- 2021-2026 Ford Bronco Sport
In a report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford stated that the affected vehicles do not have properly assembled left- or right-front lower control arm ball joints.
This component is a crucial part of a vehicle’s suspension system. It acts as a pivot between key suspension parts, allowing the wheels to move and turn.
If these pieces are misassembled, the ball joint can separate from the knuckle. This would cause loss of vehicle control while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
Do Not Drive Warning
Ford has instructed all owners of affected vehicles not to drive them until they can be inspected. The company has said it will work with owners to get their vehicles to Ford or Lincoln dealerships, including complimentary towing if needed. Some eligible customers will also have the option to have dealership personnel inspect the vehicle at the owner’s location via mobile service.
Dealers will inspect the vehicle and repair any necessary parts. As with all recalls, the repair is free.
Owners with affected vehicles will receive letters in the mail with further instructions from June 1-5.
Millions of cars are recalled, sometimes more than once. While automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they don’t always reach everyone.
