Above Average: Roomy, comfortable, well-connected and tops for towing
Below Average: Driver sightlines, maneuverability in tight confines
Consensus: A recent mid-cycle revamp made this mainstay of the segment even more attractive on every level
Comfortable and powerful, this is the most refined Escape ever.
While it’s on a sporty car-based platform, the Escape has an appealing combination of best-in-class power, an easygoing, comfortable ride and a quiet, elegant interior that should appeal to Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 shoppers. The recently redesigned Ford Escape has options such as the excellent Sync 3 infotainment system, auto parking assist, adaptive cruise control and a handsfree, foot-activated tailgate. There are also two available EcoBoost (turbocharged) 4-cylinder engines, both of which are more powerful and more fuel-efficient than before. For 2018, there’s a new SEL trim level, which sits between the SE and Titanium models.
Driving It
"The 2018 Escape is among the nimbler, fun-to-drive compact SUVs, splitting the difference between the athletic Mazda CX-5 and the more comfort-oriented Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. A high nose, prominent A-pillars and relatively large turning circle do impact its abilities in super-tight confines but have little effect on busy city streets and freeways." Sync 3
Ford was an infotainment pioneer with its Sync system, a journey that’s had its ups and downs. Its excellent Sync 3 system is available in the Escape. One of the best systems on the market, Sync 3 has large, easy-to-read graphics, intuitive controls and allows you to use some of your favorite mobile apps.
