  • Latest EV proposal from Henrik Fisker
  • Projected price of less than $40,000
  • 80+ kWh battery pack
  • Range estimated near 300 miles
  • Said to launch in second half of 2021

Elon Musk isn’t the only one to unveil a compact battery-electric SUV with an affordable price tag. Henrik Fisker is promising his own volume EV crossover, which he says will be priced less than $40,000 and offer a range approaching 300 miles in the second half of 2021. Fisker released a head-on sketch of the vehicle which showed a more traditional SUV-influenced vehicle, as opposed to the Tesla Model Y, which looks like a taller Model 3.

The new vehicle from Fisker Inc. is promised as the first of three affordable EVs offered by the designer. The announcement didn’t elaborate on the other two vehicles but said the previously announced EMotion luxury sedan would come later. That car will boast solid state battery technology promising quicker recharge times and a longer 500-mile range.

Fisker said a running prototype of the new SUV is expected to be completed late this year, while plans for an assembly plant are being finalized. The company said it will be selling vehicles directly to consumers and will be taking deposits closer to the launch of the new all-electric SUV, which will feature a battery pack with a capacity greater than 80 kWh. The new model will have two electric motors, one on each axle, to provide all-wheel drive.
