2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Revealed with New V8s

  • Four available engines include a 5.7-liter V8 replacing the base 5.3-liter V8, and a 6.6-liter V8 replacing the current 6.2 liter.
  • The new Silverado can be configured with three cab sizes and seven trims.
  • The interior boasts more screens and larger displays.

After months of rumors, Chevrolet has officially unveiled the 2027 Silverado 1500. Updating the second-best-selling vehicle in America is a huge deal, both for GM and truck shoppers. Chevy’s approach is to lean into what people like about the current truck while making it more capable, expanding the list of available tech features, and updating the design. The company also laid out the new trim lineup, as well as the updated roster of engines.

Two New Engines Are Coming

For the first time since the 1999 model year, a 5.3-liter V8 will not be available in the Silverado. That’s because the new mainstream V8 engine is a 5.7-liter V8, one of the first of GM’s next generation of small-block V8 engines. It replaces the 355-horsepower 5.3-liter engine. In addition, the 420-hp 6.2-liter V8 is being replaced by a 6.6-liter V8. We expect the new engines to be more powerful, more efficient, and more refined than the current choices. We also expect these to make their way into the GMC Sierra 1500, as well as the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, and the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL full-size SUVs.

The 2.7-liter TurboMax is returning, now backed by a 10-speed automatic transmission to match the rest of the lineup. The 3.0-liter Duramax inline-6 turbodiesel is also back, and GM trucks will continue to be the only half-tons available with a diesel. Chevrolet did not announce a possible hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Exterior Updates

The updated styling is an evolutionary step from the current-generation Silverado. It includes a new front end with more prominent headlights with a thin LED marker light above each one. The LED headlights and taillights are also new for 2027, while last year, LED headlights were only available on LTZ and higher trims. In addition, a dual exhaust comes standard on the Custom and higher trims. The CornerStep bumper and Multi-Flex tailgate are returning for 2027.

The truck’s overall design looks crisper and more refined. The Silverado will still be offered with three cab configurations and multiple bed lengths, and we expect dimensions to remain very close to those of the current model.

Interior Reboot, More Tech

The new interior philosophy puts a higher priority on seat comfort and materials quality. In addition, larger, more plentiful screens abound in the new Silverado. The center screen is now a 16.3-inch unit on all trims. Last year, the largest screen was 13.4 inches, and a 7-inch touchscreen came standard. A 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster is also standard. This screen includes the gauges and much more.

New to the Silverado lineup is the option of a screen for the front passenger. The 11.5-inch screen is standard on the ZR2 and High Country trims. It comes bundled with a head-up display and a rear camera mirror.

Other cabin features include dual wireless charging, plus the handy Multi-Flex center console. This new console design allows for 25 liters of storage and can be converted into a workstation. Super Cruise hands-free driving system returns as well. This system is the only one out there that lets you tow hands-free.

Trim Breakdown

Chevrolet simplified the Silverado lineup for 2027, eliminating the RST, LTZ, and LT Trail Boss. In addition, the LT trim is now called the Silverado. Here are the trim levels, from least expensive and educated guesses after that, based on 2026 trim-level pricing.

Work Truck

The lowest-priced, lowest-frills trim in the Silverado line.

Custom

The Custom, Custom Trail Boss, and Silverado are aimed at the heart of the mainstream truck market. The Custom is one step up from the Work Truck, with additional features including a dual exhaust and 20-inch gray wheels.

Custom Trail Boss

For 2027, Chevy is expanding on and emphasizing the Silverado’s off-road choices. The Custom Trail Boss is the entry-level off-road choice. It includes a 2-inch suspension lift and 34-inch tires.

Silverado

The Silverado trim replaces the LT. We’re putting it here in the lineup based on 2026 pricing. We expect a similar roster of features to last year’s LT. In addition, Chevy announced that with the Silverado trim and 4-wheel drive (4WD), the Z71 package comes standard. The Z71 package comes with an off-road suspension, skid plates, and hill descent control.

High Country

The High Country returns as the most upscale, highest-luxury trim you can get. For 2027, it sheds its cowpoke duds. Exterior cues include 22-inch machine-faced wheels and a Tritan Satin grille. The new cabin design is elegant and has an aura of sophistication. Interior amenities include a panoramic sunroof — the first available on a Silverado — and real wood accents, seat accents and colors that are unique to the High Country, and an available microsuede interior.

Trail Boss

The Trail Boss is aimed at people who want legit off-road capability but don’t need the purpose-built attributes of the ZR2. It comes with a 2-inch lifted suspension, 34-inch MT (mud terrain) tires, and a trim-specific hood.

ZR2

The ZR2 is the ultimate off-road machine in the lineup. Its suspension has been tested extensively in off-road racing and uses a Multimatic DSSV setup with jounce dampers. While there may be some updates to this system, the ones we’ve tested in the past are already very impressive. Not only are off-road berms, launching, and landing softer, but the ZR2’s ride is truly pleasant on-road. It also has front and rear e-lockers. The cabin includes real forged carbon fiber trim, Torch Red accents, large digital displays, wireless device charging, and more.

To add even more off-road protection, you can opt for the Bison Edition package, which adds ultra-rugged bumpers, multiple skid plates, 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels, and more.

On-Sale Date and Pricing

Chevrolet expects the Silverado to go on sale at the end of this year. Pricing has not yet been announced, but you can anticipate a slight price bump from the current starting price of $39,695.
