Audi’s go-further wagon, the A6 allroad, has been redesigned for the 2027 model year after a nearly 8-year run. Mimicking the powertrain and technology enhancements its sedan counterpart received earlier this year, the new A6 allroad looks like Audi’s most serious effort yet at offering a luxury alternative to a Subaru Outback.
The 2026 A6 Avant, the standard iteration of an A6 station wagon, was released in European markets alongside the A6 sedan we get here, but until now America has been left without a sixth-generation A6 wagon of its own. According to testimony from Audi representatives gathered by The Drive, the next Audi A6 allroad will arrive in America sometime next year (likely as a 2028 model).
Though U.S.-specific details have not yet been released, engine choices announced for the European market include diesel and plug-in hybrid options. Smart betting would point to a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 being the likely option for our market.
This is the same engine found standard in the A6 sedan that puts out 362 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Quattro all-wheel drive (AWD) will be standard, of course, but so will the adaptive four-corner air suspension that is an upcharge on the sedan. Four-wheel steering will be on tap as well, helping with highway stability and low-speed maneuverability. Interestingly, Audi has also increased the overall footprint of the A6 allroad, making it a little over 4 inches wider than a standard A6 thanks to dramatically juiced-up fenders. This leads to a much more macho look than previous iterations.
High-tech Cabin
Inside, Audi continues its familial theme by copying and pasting a similar interior across everything it produces. Unlike the sedan, the A6 allroad will come out of the box with the latest MMI software and additional physical controls on the steering wheel. Those updates did not arrive until midway through the 2026 model year for the sedan. They are accompanied by the 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, the 14.5-inch main touchscreen, and the optional 10.9-inch passenger display.
Audi has not, however, received the message that shiny piano-black plastic trim is not a luxurious move, and has subsequently used it throughout the dashboard and center console. We’d like to see the wood trim options for the upcoming 2027 Q7 and Q9 SUVs applied here instead. Fingers crossed that those will be available as options.
The 2027 A6 allroad is going on sale in Europe before the end of 2026, with pricing to be announced at a later date. U.S. details will likely arrive around the same time, so stay tuned.
