- 2027 Nissan Frontier midsize truck costs $340 more than the 2026 model, including the $1,745 destination fee.
- The new Sport Edition, which is a PRO-X-esque cosmetic package, costs $990.
- Otherwise, the Frontier carries over unchanged from 2026.
The 2027 Nissan Frontier midsize pickup truck goes on sale this month with a starting price of $34,235, including the destination fee, Nissan has announced. That represents a modest $340 increase over the 2026 Frontier, with no significant changes except for a new Sport Edition package.
The Frontier remains a distinct choice in the midsize pickup truck segment, offering two bed sizes, two cab sizes, and a standard naturally aspirated V6 engine at a time when most other midsize trucks are getting turbo-4 engines. The configurations, which include a King Cab (extended cab that seats four people total) with a 6-foot bed or a Crew Cab that seats five with either a 5-foot or the 6-foot bed, give it a competitive advantage over the Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Jeep Gladiator, and Honda Ridgeline, all of which come only in crew cab configuration. The bestselling Toyota Tacoma also offers multiple cab and bed sizes.
The 310-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 carries on with a 9-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive (RWD). Four-wheel drive (4WD) is optional for $3,000 or standard on the PRO-4X trim. The long bed adds another foot and $500 on SV and PRO-4X grades. The base S King Cab with RWD has a max towing capacity of 7,160 pounds and a max payload of 1,590 pounds.
Is The Frontier Sport Edition Worth It?
The big news for 2027 is a cheaper way to get some of the PRO-X’s off-road bits without paying the roughly $2,400 premium by stepping up from the SV to the PRO-4X.
Building off the SV with a Crew Cab and the choice of the 5- or 6-foot bed, the Sport Edition comes with RWD or optional 4WD. It bundles popular aesthetics such as a blacked-out lower front fascia, grille, and mirror caps, with “Sport” badging on the bedside and tailgate. A front aluminum skid plate protects the powertrain, LED fog lights illuminate the dimmest paths, and the black 17-inch wheels are wrapped in Hankook Dynapro all-terrain tires.
Inside, the Sport badging pops in all the places, and highlighter yellow accents on the grab handles and door panels balance the cross-stitching and branding. All of this costs $990, which makes it a good po’ man’s PRO. If you don’t want or need the locking rear diff or the Bilstein shocks, the Sport should handle off-road duty as capably as most SUVs.
Additionally, the PRO-X and PRO-4X trims now offer a moonroof package.
