2027 Hyundai Ioniq 9 Debuts Luxurious Black Ink Trim

  • Hyundai Ioniq 9 AWD Performance Calligraphy Black Ink is the top trim for the flagship 3-row electric vehicle (EV).
  • The loaded Black Ink features black exterior and interior accents, as well as posh features in all three rows.
  • Expect the price to exceed $80,000 when it’s announced this summer.

Hyundai is taking the black design accent trend one shade deeper with a new Black Ink trim debuting on the 2027 Hyundai Ioniq 9 EV. The Ioniq 9 Calligraphy Black Ink is the brand’s “most luxurious electric SUV to date,” Hyundai said in a statement on Tuesday.

The luxurious and stealthy new trim comes in Abyss Black Pearl paint and features black chrome around the bumpers, gloss-black roof rails, black window moldings and door handles, and black 21-inch alloy wheels. The interior features black aluminum trim, a black steering wheel, and all-black badging.

Perhaps all the black accents will appear slimming on Hyundai’s largest and newest model.

Launched in 2026, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 3-row SUV was already one of Hyundai’s most sophisticated models without a Genesis badge. Like the gas-powered Hyundai Palisade, the Ioniq 9 leans into the luxury segment with its loaded Calligraphy trim. The Black Ink variant seats six passengers, with first- and second-row captain’s chairs featuring the brand’s Relaxation Seats. When in Park and with the push of a button, a short leg rest extends, the seat reclines, and napping ensues. Ventilation is also included on both rows, while heated seats are on all three rows.

Other features include a panoramic roof, a 14-speaker Bose sound system, a 10-inch head-up display, front and rear dash cams, remote parking, vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality to charge other EVs or appliances, and high-capacity USB-C ports in all three rows.

The Black Ink may sound like something inspired by the swashbuckling seas, but the Ioniq 9 Calligraphy Black Ink is made for land. It features the brand’s dual-motor AWD system that makes 442 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Our testing in lesser Ioniq 9 models proved it to be much quicker than its bulky body would suggest.

Like other Hyundai EVs, the Black Ink uses an 800-volt architecture, delivering industry-leading charge times for a non-luxury vehicle. The Ioniq 9 DC fast-charges at up to 350 kW, charging from 10-80% in about 24 minutes. It has a large 110.3-kWh battery pack and an expected range exceeding 300 miles. A native North American Charging System (NACS) port is standard.

Pricing won’t be announced until this summer, but expect it to exceed $80,000. The current range-topper, the 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 Performance Calligraphy Design AWD, comes in at $78,090 with destination fees.
