Ford is recalling 86,543 Mustang Mach-E SUVs from the 2023 through 2025 model years for an issue that could cause the rear side-quarter window glass to detach. The automaker blames a new assembly jig at a supplier’s factory for the problem.
Earlier this year, Ford discovered a spike in warranty claims related to the rear side-quarter window glass, with customers complaining of loose or detached panels. A detached glass panel could also pose a significant risk to other road users. The company received 219 reports related to the issue, but no accidents or injuries were reported.
The problem stems from a new assembly jig at one of Ford’s suppliers’ factories. The new jig reduced the time needed to install glass trim pieces, but did not allow enough time for the primer material to cure. The supplier later added a timer to give the bonding material time to set.
Ford will begin notifying dealers and affected owners in September. Dealers will inspect and/or replace the rear side-quarter window glass at no charge to the owner. This is the second Mach-E recall related to detaching glass panels, but the first action affected 2021 model-year SUVs, which had issues with the panoramic glass roof detaching.
