2024 Mazda3 Gets New Features, Pricing

2022 Mazda3 hatchbackThe Mazda3 is a dark horse contender for great car. Much of the auto industry has turned its attention almost entirely to SUVs, neglecting sedans and hatchbacks – especially small ones. Economic conditions keep pushing automakers to build more premium models for the high-income, good-credit consumers who are still shopping for new cars.

So a small car with a starting price of around $25K is something many automakers phone in if they bother to build one at all.

And yet the Mazda3 charges on, with its trademark crisp handling (thanks, torque-vectoring tech) and available turbocharged engine. It drives almost like a luxury sport sedan for a lower price. It’s sharp-looking, and stepping up to higher trim levels gives it an upscale cabin. It’s a lot of car for the money.

Minor Changes for the New Model Year

For 2024, it will stay largely the same, with just a few new features available. With most automakers building just a sedan, and one rival building just a hatchback, Mazda will continue to offer the 3 with four doors or five.

And yes, there’s still a manual transmission option for those buying this particular car because they love their time behind the wheel and like the control three pedals offer.

The 2024 Mazda3 gets newly standard blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, and a safety alert reminding you to check for rear-seat passengers on exit. Turbo models now get a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus wireless phone charging.

As great as the Mazda3 is, we can’t help but wonder if it’s in the twilight of a solid career. Mazda has not electrified the Mazda3 in any way, and the 2024 edition will be the fifth year of the current platform. The brand is finally moving into plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, later than most rivals.

It’s probably inevitable that Mazda product planners will conclude that a small gas-powered sedan, no matter how well-designed, is not a creature welcome in the next era of cars.

But we’re thankful for at least one more year of this solid little choice with a reasonable price tag.
