2019 Ford Focus Spied

A prototype of the new 2019 Ford Focus has been spotted testing in Europe. Seen here in hatchback form, the new Focus appears to be a bit larger overall than the current model which had its last major makeover for the 2011 model year. Also coming in sedan form, Ford’s popular compact will be spun from the automaker’s next-gen C2 global platform — new architecture that also will underpin the revamped 2019 Fusion family.

It’s believed the new Focus will offer 1.5-liter/3-cylinder, 2.0-liter/4-cylinder and 2.3-liter/4-cylinder  engine choices, with the smallest and largest likely being turbocharged EcoBoost designs. Likely transmissions include a standard 6-speed manual or an optional 8-speed automatic. Trim grades should carry forward, and that should include the hot AWD Focus RS.

Although currently built at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, production of the upcoming 2019 model will move to the firm’s assembly facility in Hermosillo, Mexico, as part of the automaker’s plan to move all of its small-car production out of the U.S. The Wayne operation will be refurbished and is expected to become the source for Ford’s upcoming Ranger and Bronco trucks which should generate both higher volume and higher profit numbers than the Focus.
