With its reveal still a month off, Nissan has released some new information regarding aerodynamic improvements we’ll see in the second-generation of its electric powered hatchback. Nissan claims the basic shape of the 2018 Leaf was inspired by an airplane wing profile and results in a more symmetrical flow pattern that helps reduce drag and also endows the car with zero lift at higher speeds to enhance its stability. The new Leaf’s lower-drag coefficient also will play a role in extending its range while contributing to better stability in crosswinds.

Nissan still remains quiet on the issue of powertrain specs for the 2018 Leaf, although rumors continue to circulate that in addition to a larger standard lithium-ion battery the car could offer up to a 60 kWh pack that would move it far closer to the head of the EV field when it comes to per-charge range stats. The automaker has, however, confirmed the new Leaf will introduce its own form of e-Pedal one-foot driving tech as well as offer the firm’s ProPilot semi-autonomous operating capabilities.
