Mitsubishi announced its Mirage 5-door hatchback will be taking a model-year hiatus for 2016. The value-priced subcompact — seen here in 2015 guise and currently "the most fuel efficient non-hybrid gasoline vehicle available in America" — is set to reappear as an early 2017 model, debuting next February at the Chicago Auto Show

In addition to gaining a number of yet-to-be detailed improvements to its powertrain and chassis, the recast 2017 Mirage hatch will sport new front-end styling and be joined for the first time in the U.S. by a similarly upgraded version of the Mirage G4 Sedan, which is currently being sold in Canada.
