2017 Honda Civic Si Prototype Debuts

Honda unveiled the 2017 Civic Si Prototype, a forerunner to a sporty coupe and sedan positioned between the standard models and the range topping Type R Hatchback. The Civic Si is expected to arrive in showrooms next spring, with the Type R slated to come to market shortly thereafter.

Equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission only, the sporty Si features a blacked-out grille, larger front intakes, center-mounted exhaust tip on the rear fascia, a fixed rear wing and specially designed 19-inch alloy wheels shod with 235/35Y performance tires specific to the package. Honda declined to give out performance figures, but said that the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine will be tuned to produce substantially more power than the 180 horsepower from the same engine in the standard Coupe, Sedan and Hatchback.

Fastest Si ever

“With the new Honda Civic Si, we’re injecting even more sporty goodness into our 10th generation Civic lineup,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of Honda. “This will be, hands down, the fastest, best-handling Si we’ve ever offered to our customers.”

The fully equipped Si features an all-black interior with aggressively bolstered sport bucket seats with red stitching, carbon fiber accents, leather shift boot with an aluminum shift knob, aluminum sport pedals and a sunroof. Functional performance items include cross-drilled brake rotors, new adaptive steering, active dampers and a limited slip differential.

Pricing of the 2017 Honda Civic Si will be announced closer to its on-sale date.
