2017 Honda Civic Hatchback due

As promised, Honda will expand its popular Civic lineup for 2017 with the introduction of the all-new Civic Hatchback which was previewed at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show. Adding a bit more European visual edge to basic design themes introduced on the tenth-generation 2016 Civic Sedan and Coupe models, the striking 5-door variant arrives in showrooms here this fall and also will serve as the basis for a true enthusiast-grade Type-R model coming next year.

The new Civic Hatchback will be offered in LX, Sport, EX, leather-lined EX-L and a new range-topping Sport Touring trim that includes standard LED headlamps. All Hatchback variants share the same 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine used in the Coupe and Sedan. While the 174 horsepower/162 lb-ft of torque output carry over for the LX, EX and EX-L, the pony count rises to 180 in the 5-door Sport and Sport Touring models both of which benefit from a freer-flowing, center-mounted exhaust. A CVT automatic transmission is available on all Civic Hatchback models with the LX, Sport and EX also offering a 6-speed manual. Final EPA figures are still pending, but Honda anticipates the CVT automatic versions of this versatile newcomer will earn class-leading 31/40/34-mpg EPA city/highway/combined ratings.

Reprising the upscale look and feel of its Coupe and Sedan siblings, the cabin of the Civic Hatchback boasts class-leading people and cargo space including 36.0-inches of rear-seat legroom. Here, too, most variants will offer the comprehensive Honda Sensing suite of driver-assist technologies, including a Collision Mitigation Braking System, Forward Collision Warning integrated with CMBS, Lane Keeping Assist, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning integrated and Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow – all of which are standard in the Sport Touring models. Pricing and additional packaging specifics for the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback will be released closer to its official on-sale date.
