Due to start production early next year and hit showrooms as a 2017 model, disguised versions of an updated Ford Escape have been spotted on public roads around Detroit. Although carrying over on its existing platform, Ford‘s popular compact SUV will receive a number of changes to its exterior and interior. Beneath that polka-dot camouflage, the revamped Escape features a bolder, Edge-influenced front fascia highlighted by a more prominent grille flanked by restyled headlamps and new LED running lights. Out back, the Escape remix brings new LED taillamps and a revised tailgate treatment.

While the 2017’s Escape’s interior details are still under wraps, some cosmetic updating is expected as are functional enhancements to the infotainment systems, which will incorporate Ford’s new Sync3 upgrades. The Escape’s existing 170-horsepower/2.5-liter 4-cylinder base engine and 270-horse/2.0-liter EcoBoost four are likely to remain in place, but the current 1.6-liter EcoBoost four may be supplanted by the automaker’s newer and more efficient 1.5-liter alternative introduced in the 2014 Ford Fusion.
