2016 Infiniti Q50 to get 2.0-liter turbo

Infiniti announced that the turbocharged 2.0-liter/4-cylinder engine already available in versions of the Q50 Sport Sedan it sells in China and in Europe will be added to the U.S. lineup this winter to accompany other changes to its upscale midsize 4-door (2015 models shown here). Infiniti originally debuted this sophisticated force-fed, direct-injected engine at the 2014 Geneva Auto show.

Developed in concert with Daimler — which also is using a version in the new C-Class – the engine is built at Nissan‘s state-of-the-art assembly plant in Decherd, Tennessee. In Infiniti Q50 form, it currently turns out 208 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque which gets sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission. At the Geneva reveal, Infiniti would only say this slick 2.0-liter also would be used "in upcoming Infiniti and Nissan vehicles that are sold here." No word yet as to any subsequent applications for either division, but we expect to hear more on that front in the near future.
