The first 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R Mustangs rolled off of the assembly line in Flat Rock, Michigan, with Ford executive chairman Bill Ford on hand to help celebrate the completion of Job 1. In commenting on the launch, Ford noted: "This is a special day for all Mustang enthusiasts. We have taken the GT350 formula to the next level of innovation, style and performance. Today the legend continues."

On sale next month, "the most track-capable production Mustang ever" is a successor to the 1965 Shelby GT350 Competition model. Opening at $63,495 including destination and gas-guzzler fees, this modern remake packs a 526-horsepower/5.2-liter twin-cam V8 with a racing-style flat plane crank and features a full spectrum of hard-core components that range from a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission and MagneRide suspension to high-performance Brembo brakes and a Torsen limited-slip rear axle.
