Already on sale in Europe, the all-new Gen VII Volkswagen Golf will make its first appearance in U.S. trim at the New York Auto Show. Three different variations on the 2015 VW Golf theme will be presented and all are set to go on sale here sometime during the first half of next year.

Like their Euro cousins, the new U.S. Golf family will share the same MQB modular platform architecture and be bigger, but lighter and more spacious than the vehicles they replace. Base model for America will be the Golf TSI which will be fitted with a new 1.8-liter turbocharged/direct-injected version of the EA888 inline-four gasoline engine family. It replaces the 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated inline-5 currently used in our Gen VI Golf and also is expected to make about 170 horsepower. Motivation for the 2015 Golf TDI will come from the automaker’s new EA288 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine with a likely 150-horsepower output while the hot Golf-based 2015 VW GTI will get a high-output version of the EA888 that, like its Euro kin, is expected to crank out 220 ponies.
