Recall Alert: Honda Odyssey Airbag May Deploy Without Warning

2022 Honda Odyssey Gray Right Front

Honda is recalling 440,830 minivans due to an issue with their airbag deployment software.

Honda reports that the side curtain airbags of 2018-2022 Honda Odyssey models may deploy if the vehicle is suddenly jarred.

The company told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) electronic control unit (ECU) “contains incorrect deployment parameters for the side and side curtain airbags.”

If you hit a pothole, go too fast over a speed bump, or encounter road debris, the sensor may think you’ve been in an accident. This may cause the second and third row side curtain airbags to deploy.

Honda says it knows of 130 warranty claims and 25 reports of injuries related to the issue.

Affected owners will need to visit their nearest Honda dealer to have the SRS ECU updated with “improved airbag deployment parameters.” If the update does not fix the issue, the unit will be replaced.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail beginning May 25, 2026.
