2015 Apollo Edition Ford Mustang to go on the block for charity

With the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture Oskosh 2015 looming, Ford has has again created a one-off of its Mustang that will be auctioned next week to help support the EAA’s Young Eagles youth aviation program and other related efforts. The eighth car to be built for the EAA’s annual Gathering of Eagles charity auction was inspired by the U.S. Apollo space program, which resulted in manned moon landings. "The entire program was extraordinary – one of our nation’s greatest technological achievements, noted Edsel B. Ford II, a member of the Ford board of directors at the car’s unveiling. "The Apollo Edition Mustang salutes that spirit of American ingenuity with the quintessential American automobile – Ford Mustang."

Based on a 2015 Mustang GT, the Apollo Edition matches distinctive looks with superior overall performance. Finished in a custom pure-white and pure-black that provides a visual link with NASA, the car gets a bespoke front splitter, rear diffuser, rocker moldings and accents along with LED underbody lighting "to symbolize atmospheric re-entry." The cabin features unique upholstery, trim panels, sill plates and floor mats along with a special gauge cluster. 

Blast off with 627 horsepower 

Mechanical upgrades on the Apollo Mission Mustang start with a Ford Performance supercharged version of the GT’s 5.0-liter V8 that makes 627 horsepower and 540 lb-ft of torque delivered to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. The engine also is fitted with and X-pipe side/rear exhaust system. The car’s chassis upgrade is complemented by 6-piston Brembo performance brakes and distinctive 21-inch Forgiato alloy wheels wrapped in sticky Pirelli PZero Nero performance tires.
