Seeking to jump start sales of its just-released 2014 Cadillac ELR Coupe, GM’s luxury division has announced a new promotion for its first extended-range electric vehicle (EREV). The initial 1,000 buyers who either purchase or lease an ELR under a special 39-month contract also will receive a complementary 240-volt home-charging station. The new ELR, which stickers at $75,995, can be leased by qualified consumers for $699 per month with $5,999 due at signing on a contract allowing the car to be driven 10,000 miles per year.

"The ELR’s blend of leading technology with provocative design and fun-to-drive performance is set to bring new buyers to Cadillac and to electrification itself," said Uwe Ellinghaus, chief marketing officer, Global Cadillac. "Professional installation of the fastest home-charging unit is a natural way to mark the introduction of ELR to the luxury market."

Powered by a more potent version of GM’s EREV system pioneered in the Chevrolet Volt, the Cadillac ELR is powered by two electric motors and can travel about 37 miles in pure EV mode before the lithium-ion battery needs to be replenished-a process that takes about 5 hours on the dedicated home charger. The ELR also has an effective range of 340 miles, aided by a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, which acts as a generator and is fueled by a 9.3-gallon tank.
