Toyota Sienna Is Our Minivan Best Buy of 2026

For the sixth consecutive year, the Toyota Sienna is our Minivan Best Buy. It’s a perennial winner because it offers just about everything a family could want in daily transportation. A good minivan gets better in 2026, adding more standard features that build on the Sienna’s many strengths.

Inner Beauty

While the Sienna has a swoopy, stylish, eye-catching exterior, when it comes to minivans, it’s what’s on the inside that counts. The Toyota Sienna’s interior is an excellent execution of the “living room on wheels” characteristic that families love.

Ever since its introduction in 1997, the Toyota Sienna has had a roomy, family-friendly interior, and the current fourth-generation model is no different. The Sienna has three spacious rows of seats, plenty of cargo space, and options such as second-row captain’s chairs with built-in ottomans, hands-free power-sliding doors, and the Driver Easy Speak intercom system. A few new standard features for 2026 include an 8-speaker audio system, a power sunroof, rear sunshades, and a power liftgate, making the base LE trim an even better value than before.

We (and our passengers) are pleased with the seat comfort and nice interior materials, especially in the upper trims. The SofTex seats in the XLE and XSE trims are nice, but in the more luxurious upper trims, you’re treated to genuine leather, and everything the driver touches feels premium.

Smooth Operator

In our testing, we found the Toyota Sienna to be a pleasant ride for the driver and the passengers. The hybrid powertrain uses a gas engine mated to two electric motors to strike a satisfying balance of performance and efficiency. It’s the most efficient conventional hybrid minivan in its class, returning outstanding fuel economy of up to 36 mpg in the city and on the highway, and it can still tow up to 3,500 pounds.

As we noted in our full review, the ride is smooth and comfortable in around-town errand running and on long-distance highway road trips. The sport-tuned suspension in the XSE trim provides a slightly more dynamic drive without sacrificing practicality.

The Toyota Sienna is one of the two minivans on the market available with all-wheel drive (AWD), giving it SUV-like versatility. The AWD system adds a third electric motor and provides good all-season traction. This is worth serious consideration for families in snowy climates.

Uncompromising Value

The Toyota Sienna’s price tag is similar to most of the minivan class. However, many other factors make it an outstanding value. For starters, the hybrid powertrain helps keep fuel costs low. It’s also the reigning minivan champ for our Best Resale Value Awards, and its slow depreciation further adds to its value proposition.

In addition, the Sienna is an excellent value when it comes to what minivan drivers value: safety and reliability. The Toyota brand has a consistently proven reliability record. In addition, the Sienna earns a 5-Star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and has received the IIHS Top Safety Pick award.

This minivan earned high praise from the IIHS not only for its good crash test scores but also for its well-equipped standard safety features, namely the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite.

For families looking to maximize safety, efficiency, and overall practicality, the Toyota Sienna is our top pick.
