Predicted Resale Value After 5 Years of Ownership: 55.8%

Best Resale Value Awards 2021 Vert Color RGB 99×142

The Toyota Tacoma remains the best-selling midsize truck in America because it stays true to its roots. It’s tough, capable, reliable, and known for quality. This truck has been in the top spot of the BRVA podium every year since we launched these awards in 2003 and we awarded it to the first-gen Tacoma. Now the Tacoma is in its third generation, but the accolades remain the same. It’s the Midsize Truck Best Resale Value Award winner for the 19th consecutive year and is one of the 10 Best overall Best Resale Values for the 10th year in a row.

If you need a truck that can get the job done — in the dirt, on the work site, or on the trail — the Tacoma is ready for just about anything. You probably aren’t eyeing a run in the Baja 1000, but the Tacoma has proven its toughness there for over 30 years. This truck is also capable of towing up to 6,800 pounds.

Its three TRD models offer different levels of off-road capability, with innovative off-road tech. Off-roaders can also get a 2-speed transfer case, Crawl Control, and Multi-Terrain Select. In addition, for 2021 there’s a Tacoma Trail Special Edition with Kevlar-reinforced tires, plus a 120-volt power outlet and lockable, drainable storage in the bed.

But you don’t have to go off the beaten path to appreciate what the Tacoma has to offer. Its ride is comfortable around town, and the available Double Cab layout gives you good space for five people. There are more than 30 trim combinations of trim levels, engines — either a 4-cylinder or a powerful and fuel-efficient V6 — two transmissions, and plenty of options. With all of these choices, shoppers can find a Tacoma that’s a frugal work truck, amenable family hauler, or anything in between.
