Alfa Romeo 4C

Alfa Romeo 4C

About Alfa Romeo 4C

These tiny Italian 2-seaters are the first mainstream Alfas to be sold in the U.S. since the 164 sedan of the mid-1990s. Although the 2016 Alfa 4C with its turbocharged 237-horsepower 1.7-liter 4-cylinder engine appears outgunned by competitors such as the BMW Z4, Porsche Boxster and Chevrolet Corvette, this pint-size Italian has a big edge in lightness and agility. The steering is unassisted, which takes some getting used to, but the overall driving experience is superbly unfiltered, which also translates to lots of noise from the engine, road and wind. If you’re seduced by style and slot-car handling, there’s much to like with the 2016 Alfa Romeo 4C. If you’re looking to be pampered, look elsewhere.

Pros: "Acceleration, handling, looks, exhaust note"

Cons: "a little difficult to get in and out of"

"I have owned my 4C Launch Edition for about 2 months, and absolutely love just about everything about the car. Admittedly, it is not as "practical" as a Cayman or Corvette, as it is somewhat difficult to get in and out of, particularly when taking care not to scuff the wide doorsills. It also doesn't have much of a trunk, and has very little interior storage. That being said, once you're inside there is a surprising amount of room, particularly for the driver. Also, contrary to some reviews, the interior is quite elegant and beautiful, with double stitched leather wrapped around the dash, doors, seats, and steering wheel - all sitting on a polished carbon fiber tub. While the seats are not overly plush, they are quite comfortable, though if you are over 6'2" or otherwise are large, you might not find the 4C as comfortable as I do. In terms of driving, the 4C is extremely fast, and handles incredibly sharply. The ride's firm but not harsh, and I have found that increasing the tire pressure by 4 pounds over the recommended 26/29 PSI increases the ride comfort considerably. While the steering is heavy at rest, once you are moving even a little bit, the steering feels perfect. Parallel parking would be a challenge due to the manual steering, but of course I would never attempt to parallel park the 4C because there is almost no rear shoulder visibility on either side. With the racing exhaust, the engine is loud, but in my opinion that is a good thing. I have no idea how Alfa got a four-cylinder Turbo to sound this good, but the exhaust note, especially from the outside, is just about the best I've ever heard. The sound from the Porsche flat 6 on the Cayman and 911 sounds very good, but is just a little too "metallic" sounding for my taste. The Audi RS4 from a few years ago had a great sounding exhaust note, as did the old Alfa 164Q, but the 4C is right up there with them. Oh, and while exterior styling is somewhat subjective, I think the 4C is one of the most beautiful cars in the world. Almost everywhere I go, people ask me about the car and went to take pictures. All in all,I think the 4C is a great sports car and a modern classic."

Pros: "Awesome!"

Cons: "Better Radio."

"Fast, nimble, cool, exciting! Multiple drive modes are cool. Launch Mode is insane. Looks are awesome. You smile the whole time you drive. Not a luxury car - this is a sports car of old. Milage is great - average is 30 MPG. Would have given it 11's all the way through! Radio could be better. Need to be flexible and under 6'4". The car is loud and announces it's presence with authority. Best sports car ever."

"from Porsche to Maserati, fastest car I have ever owned. I am afraid some of the dials and buttons are a TINY bit cheaper grade than I would like."
