"You won't find a better vehicle for a winter climate. The fuel mileage is as good as any other REAL SUV out there. These things perform like BMW sports cars, and are incredibly powerful and they handle flawlessly. I can hold corners going faster in this than I can in my Monte Carlo. This vehicle will transcend your soul while cruising at 45mph on a warm summer evening. The occupants of the vehicle will be lost looking out the huge windows and the dual sunroofs at the moon and stars. These vehicles have poor reliability reputations because the just majority were sold on lease and were beaten up. Just do your homework and don't buy one unless it was well maintained. I have a 2000 DII and a 2004 DII, each with 50k miles, and they both are perfect. They both look better than most 2009 model year vehicles, and people don't believe me when they see my white 2000 and I tell them the year. They assume it's off the showroom floor. The body of these vehicles is aluminum and therefor cannot rust. The doors and the roof are metal and can rust, but keep them clean and they won't. Be careful when buying a 2003. Oil pump issues are common in this model year. When you buy one, make sure that the front drive shaft has inserts through which to grease the vehicle. If it doesn't, have someone install one that does, or install it your self. You will save a lot of money in the long run, because the shaft can break and damage the transmission if it stays un greased. Be good to your discovery and it will be good to you. Do not listen to people who say these cars break down all the time. My friend has a 1997 DI with 275k miles (same motor and transmission as a DII), and he's never had a major problem with it. Buy a Discovery, and you will be immersing yourself into a realm of comfort and luxury you never knew possible in a vehicle. From it's heated leather seats and heated front windshield, to fog lights on the front and back, comfy steering wheel... these things relax you when you drive them. This will be the best purchase you ever make. Just do your homework and don't buy something that has been beat up. These things are like a pretty lady. If you take good care of them and give them your heart, they will love you forever."

"The discovery is a very capable off-road vehicle. It's comfortable, the interior is nice, exterior styling is like nothing else on the road. Now that we have the good stuff out of the way, let's get down to the nuts and bolts of it. Before we get started, keep in mind any repair parts needed come from the UK. Can you say $$$? First problem was with the braking. Lights would flash, bells would ring. Bad sensor at the wheel. $$ Next was the head gasket(very common on these engines). $$$$$$ Next was the crank position sensor. The vehicle completely shuts down while you're driving. Not safe!! Bad U joints cause diffs and transfer cases to be prone to exploding as a result of the U joints giving out at 60 MPH causing the drive shaft to drop to the road. Don't make the same mistake I did. Like those of a beautiful and mysterious woman, the looks and allure of a Rover will inevitably leave you bankrupt and bitter."

"Wow...where do I begin. Bought a 2000 Land Rover Discovery II in 2003 & have had problem after problem. Head Gaskets ($4,000) New Transmission! ($4,500) I have to replace the Self-Leveling Suspension Motor in the rear almost every 15 months at $900 each time! The headliner is falling now...it's burning oil and has been for years! Don't get me wrong...I bought mine b/c I love the look, it's stylish...it's an icon. I LOVE Land Rovers. It's just such a shame the quality of the engine & drive train are so poor. :("
