What Is Voltage?

A pair of electric vehicles sit parked against a sunset. We see them from the rear. The one on the left is plugged into a charging station.

Voltage is the difference in electric potential between two points on a conducting wire. It describes electrical “pressure” in a line. Also called “electromotive force.” In practical terms, a measure of electric force. See also Amp, Amperage, VoltWatt, and Wattage.
