The term “frunk” blends the words “front” and “trunk” to describe a storage compartment under a vehicle’s hood. Frunks are most often associated with electric vehicles (EVs), which lack a large internal-combustion engine at the front of the vehicle, allowing designers to use some of that space for storage. Though frunks are most commonly found in EVs, they can also appear in vehicles with rear-engine or mid-engine layouts, such as some Porsche 911 and Chevrolet Corvette models. Storage capacity varies by vehicle, but frunks are usually smaller than traditional rear trunks.
