If you’re already a Subaru owner, the Legacy-based spec.B provides you with a familiar menu – all-season traction, turbocharged boxer powerplant, and practical four-door accommodations – in a package offering more space and refinement in a contemporary execution. The spec.B also offers performance on par with BMW’s 330, while making a statement of standing apart from the crowd.
The spec.B is fully in the category of being a "sleeper," which is to say, a performance car that doesn’t necessarily advertise its capabilities. To be sure, the wheel package and hood-mounted scoop attract their share of attention, but that’s not the same as BMW’s roundel or Mercedes-Benz’s three-pointed star. Also, if you still perceive Subaru window stickers as firmly fixed in the low-$20,000 range, the spec.B’s mid-$30,000 price point may give you some pause.
