For families that don't tow trailers or go off-road, the Saturn Outlook is a more user-friendly, more economical option than a full-size SUV.

About Saturn Outlook

The 2009 Saturn Outlook is part of a family of three-row crossover vehicles that include the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Traverse. For most families, the Outlook offers all the relevant capability of GM's three-row, truck-based SUVs, but with better ride and handling, easier entry and exit and better fuel economy. The Outlook and its GM brethren appear poised for unprecedented success in a category pioneered by the now-defunct Chrysler Pacifica and still competitive Ford Taurus X, not to mention the all-new Ford Edge.

"I have loved driving this car. It handles well, it is room both in passenger seating and cargo room. I have had a lot of mechanical problems with it. My timing belt had to be replaced (in fact all belts and gaskets were replaced), I had to have the fuse panel replaced due to the faulty sun room drains and now have had the transmission replaced. When I research all of these issues on the internet, they seem to be common and costly issues."

Pros: "We enjoyed the roomy 3 row seating design"

Cons: "Engine Problems"

"I bought my 2007 Saturn Oulook in 2009 with 32,000 miles on it with an extended warranty. I had tranmission problem within the first year that GM covered ($1000). Recall for TIming chain 6 mos later, GM replaced timing chain. 2012 GM sent out notice that customers were still having problem and that Timing chain would be covered until 120,000 mi. Feb 2013 with 78000 miles engine is shot. Engine is full of sludge and pistons burnt caked oil. GM is not covering it saying it was neglect (lack of oil changes). Unfortunately I change the oil myself and did not save receipts so I am stuck. I have owned a Dodge Durango and drove it to over 200,000 mi and a few other cars to over 150,000. Now GM service reps are telling 2007-2009 Outlook, Acadia, Traverse customers to make sure you dont go beyong 3000 mi oil changes to help prevent this problem but that has proven to not be a gaurantee. Reports suggest that the problem has been fixed in later models. Internet search shows many 2007-2009 Outlook, Acadia, Traverse have had this same problem - including Consumer Reports. Reports suggest the combination of Timing chain problem and overall design of the Engine is the cause of sludge. Engine is compact, burns hot, pistons not allowing oil to effectively drain from the cylinders, causing sludge and burnt pistons. Extended Warranty also refused to cover - turns out they have a clause in small print of contract that says they do not cover this condition so beware of this as well."

"I was nervous about this vechicle. We bought it before the reviews were out and it was first introduced. Our previous SUV was a Tahoe and I loved it! Needed the room with two teenage boys and all their football buddies! This SUV takes the cake for room! It also was better handling in the snow than my 4 whl drive Tahoe (AWD is awesome)! We've only had it in the shop once for the transmission recall and once for a cosmetic issue with the emblem. Otherwise, terrific SUV, better gas milage than the Tahoe (I average 19-20 with a lead foot because I'm always in a hurry). The hard shifting made us wary, but you get used to it and don't even notice it anymore. I would recommend this vechicle to all my football mom friends!"
