The Mazda CX-70 is the brand’s entry in the midsize 2-row SUV segment. It’s competitive not only because it looks good, but because it has a surprisingly upscale interior and the not-so-surprising eager driving dynamics we’ve come to associate with Mazda. Here are our three favorite things about the 2026 Mazda CX-70.
1. Generous Standard Features
No matter which trim you choose, the 2026 Mazda CX-70 comes well equipped with standard features. Just a few include all-wheel drive (AWD), leather seating (which is heated and ventilated in front), a heated steering wheel, a power sunroof, and a high-tech infotainment system with a 12.3-inch screen and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. That means even if you go with the most affordable base model, you’re getting a lot of car for the money.
2. Fun Engine
The standard engine in the Mazda CX-70 is a 3.3-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder producing 280 horsepower, which is about average for this segment. However, if you upgrade to one of the Tubo S trims, you get a boost to 340 horsepower, adding considerable muscle to this stylish midsize SUV. Additionally, the handling and braking are a little more engaging than the norm in this class, which we’ve come to expect from Mazda. Drivers interested in a hybrid should consider the more efficient Mazda CX-70 PHEV, which can go up to 32 miles on electricity alone.
3. Excellent Safety Scores
The 2026 Mazda CX-70 earns the top safety scores from both of America’s safety authorities. It earns a 5-Star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the coveted Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It gets these honors not just because of its favorable crash-test results, but also because it’s proven itself at avoiding accidents in the first place with its standard automatic emergency braking system.
