The midsize truck segment is small but highly competitive. For many midsize truck buyers, it’s their first time buying a pickup. Others are coming from a larger truck to save on gas. Because of that, the ideal midsize truck should offer a combination of utility and comfort, while being a good choice for lifestyle activities like camping, overlanding, and mountain biking. The 2026 Nissan Frontier excels at all of this, so much so that sales increased by nearly 48% in the last quarter alone.
Here are three of the features that make the Frontier so appealing.
1. Terrific Off-Road Trim Levels

The range of off-road trims is designed to attract everyone from those who want the look of a tough off-roader but don’t need the added hardware, to those who crave fantastic capability on the trail.
The rear-wheel-drive PRO-X has the looks of the PRO-4X, as well as the fuel economy of the bunch. Next up is the 4-wheel-drive PRO-4X, with a 2-speed transfer case with low range, electronic locking rear differential, off-road shocks, a skidplate, terrain modes, hill descent control, and cameras with an off-road mode to show you obstacles around the truck on the trail. The PRO 4X R by Roush adds a performance off-road-tuned suspension, lift kit, aggressive tires, and much more.
2. Comfort on the Road and in the Cab

Nissan is known for its comfortable seats, and its “zero gravity” front seats make longer drives in the Frontier a breeze. They are also more adjustable than in the previous generation. Inside the cabin, controls are laid out to be intuitive and easy to reach, greatly reducing frustration trying to find and use them. And both the standard and optional tech features are impressive.
Also, this is a tough, capable pickup, yet its ride quality is among the best in the Frontier’s class. That, combined with the comfortable seats, ease of use of the controls, and excellent tech, makes this truck very pleasant in town and ready for long road trips with less fatigue.
3. Robust V6 Power

All Frontiers use a 3.8-liter V6, backed by a very good 9-speed automatic transmission. This means that even the base model comes out of the box with a hearty 310 horsepower. Throttle response is quick, and this powerful engine is one of the big reasons why the Frontier can tow up to 7,150 pounds. The engine also has enough low-end torque to make off-roading up hills and over obstacles easier. Its acceleration is predictable and linear, both of which are tremendously helpful off-road. On the highway, power delivery is smooth and quick.
