Our 3 Favorite Things About the 2026 Mazda CX-50

Mazda’s CX-50 outsells a lot of its competitors, and for good reason. While it offers many great standard and optional features, here are a few that stand out to us and should make the 2026 Mazda CX-50 stand out to you.

1. Engine Options

It seems rare these days to have options on engine choice. The 2026 Mazda CX-50 still offers a turbocharged option for those who want more get-up-and-go. You can option your CX-50 with a 2.5-liter turbo that delivers 227 ponies and 310 lb-ft of torque. If you have access to 93 octane fuel, those numbers jump to 256 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. Those are impressive and feel it when you get into the throttle. The base powertrain, a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder unit, makes 187 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. Those are not chintzy numbers, but they won’t raise your eyebrows the way the turbo does. A fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain is also available. We love that the CX-50 gives you a choice.

2. Mi-Drive and i-Active All-Wheel Drive

Mazdas are known for possessing excellent driving dynamics in moderately priced packages. Two systems doing heavy lifting are Mi-Drive and i-Active all-wheel drive. The former offers drive modes including Normal, Sport, and Off-Road. Those adjust driving specifications such as throttle response, transmission reactions, and steering feel. The latter, i-Active all-wheel drive, prevents wheel spin at the tire that needs traction the most. This ensures better grip around turns, off the pavement, or if you’re driving in inclement weather. Both systems are tuned to help you enjoy the drive.

3. Hey, Good Looking

Mazdas have a distinct vibe. They’ve got a long nose, short overhangs, a small greenhouse, and sporty aesthetics. Yes, the 2026 Mazda CX-50 has got some additional body cladding when compared to its cousin, the CX-5, but we think that adds to its rugged appeal. We especially appreciate the Meridian Edition, which comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, knobbier all-terrain tires, and black roof rails.
