Pros

  • Drop-top fun
  • Superb mid-engine driving dynamics
  • Rip-roaring 6-cylinder models
  • Simple yet stylish aesthetic

Cons

  • Noisy interior for a luxury car
  • Gets expensive
  • Base engine lacks Porsche character

What's New?

  • New Shark Blue and Frozenberry Metallic paint options

The Porsche Boxster was a revolutionary car for the iconic brand when it first came out in the 1990s. About a quarter-century later, the 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster continues to serve as an outstanding mid-engine luxury sports car that delivers drop-top driving enjoyment and a luxurious interior, all at a much more affordable price point than the 911 Cabriolet.

There are several distinct models within the model range of the 718 Boxster. From the base model up to the 718 Spyder with several options in-between, just about everyone in the market for a sporty and luxurious roadster will find something to love. From the track to the daily drive, the Boxster is a more versatile car than you might expect.

2022 Porsche 718 Spyder Pricing

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors, but here's a general idea of what buyers are currently paying for used 2022 Porsche 718 Spyder models when purchasing from a dealership.

Driving the Porsche 718 Spyder

Driving the Porsche 718 Boxster is pure fun, no matter which model you go with. The base model with the turbocharged flat-4 engine delivers more than sufficient performance, and it only gets better as you upgrade to the S with a bigger turbo engine or the higher-end models with the 6-cylinder. All of these engines pair well with an outstanding balance thanks to the mid-engine layout plus a well-tuned suspension for agile handling. Handling gets even better if you get a Boxster equipped with PASM adaptive suspension.

One of our few complaints about the Boxster is that it’s a bit noisy in the cabin. It’s more refined than a cheaper roadster like a Mazda MX-5 Miata, but we expect a higher level of sound deadening in highway driving with the top up at this price level.

Interior Comfort

The 2-seat interior of the Porsche 718 Boxster has a simple and upscale design that is in line with the Porsche philosophy. It’s a true sports car that is simultaneously a high-end luxury car, as evidenced by the quality materials and well-placed tech features throughout the interior.

There’s plenty of legroom even for tall drivers and passengers. However, be warned, since this is a low-slung sports car, it can be a bit tricky for some folks to get in and out of. Once you’re in, it’s a comfortable place to be.

Exterior Styling

The design of the Boxster has evolved throughout the years. In its current form, the 718 Boxster has a design that is both classic Porsche and decidedly modern. The styling is distinct to the brand, and there are some tasteful curves throughout the body without being too boisterous.

The look of the Porsche 718 Boxster can change quite a bit depending on which model you go with. Not only does every trim look a little different, but there are tons of customization options when it comes to wheel options, paint colors, and interior materials so you can truly make your Porsche your own.

Favorite Features

BOXSTER 25 YEARS
If you have the means, the most expensive 718 Boxster is arguably the best. Not only do you get the stellar 6-cylinder engine, but you get some interesting design cues like bronze wheels and exterior trim and a gorgeous red interior.

PDK TRANSMISSION
Purists may want to stick with the traditional manual transmission, but the available PDK 7-speed automatic transmission is terrific. It delivers smooth and snappy shifts contributing to an enjoyable drive.

Standard Features

The Porsche 718 Boxster has gotten a little more generous with standard features in recent years. On top of standard performance features like a turbocharged flat-4 engine, a 6-speed manual transmission, and a sport-tuned suspension, the standard kit includes a power convertible roof, ParkAssist, Apple CarPlay, 6-speaker audio, heated seats, dual-zone climate control, and bi-xenon headlights.

Factory Options

There are many options that improve the performance, appearance, and comfort of the Porsche 718 Boxster. The appealing Boxster T is like a base Boxster that has been very tastefully upgraded with features like the Sport Chrono package, 20-inch wheels, PASM suspension, and a locking differential with torque vectoring. For the enthusiast, this is the best value. Upgrading further to the S model gives you a bigger engine with better performance. The three 6-cylinder 718 Boxster models greatly improve performance, but they also come with a pretty significant price hike.

There are also many standalone options and option packages that allow you to customize your Porsche further. Just a few include an excellent PDK 7-speed automatic transmission, multiple premium audio systems, driver assistance technology like lane-keep assist, and a carbon-ceramic brake system.

Engine & Transmission

Most drivers will be satisfied with the turbocharged 4-cylinder base engine in the base and T models of the 718 Boxster. If you have an appetite for something a little faster, but don’t want the price to go through the roof, consider the Boxster S with the bigger turbocharged engine. If you want pure Porsche character from your Boxster and if you have the budget for it, then the flat-6 engine that powers the GTS, GT4, and 25 Years models delivers big power, big fun, and a sound that will make you want to stab the throttle at every turn.

Every 718 Boxster is rear-wheel drive. An old-fashioned 6-speed manual transmission is standard, and it’s upgradable to a quick-shifting PDK 7-speed automatic.
