Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 5

"We bought this car when it was only a year old with 15K miles, and it was fine for the first 6 or 7 years, up until about 75K miles. We take very good care of our cars, with regular oil/filter changes, etc. so the engine is basically still fine, but everything else is "nickle and diming" us. The transmission needed to be replaced around 90K miles, and the suspension components are problematic, with strut issues, sway bar, control arm, wheel bearing, and more. The car has needed thermostat replacements, alternator replacements, etc. The undercarriage and especially the rocker panel area are rusty, to the point where you can't put the floor jack where it's recommended, because there's no solid metal left. The interior is okay, except for where the console shift mechanism no longer registers which gear you're in (there was a manufacturer's recall on that, I believe.) I can't imagine this car can actually make it to 150K mi, like other people have said. It's seen better days, despite our regular care."

"I bought this car new in 1997 for less than $19K. It has 143,000 miles and the engine runs like new. The engine does not burn or leak oil and is still as quiet as the day I bought it. I have the 5-speed and the car moves pretty good for a small V6. For the most part, I have done only routine maintainance, excpt for the ABS module going at about 100K miles to the tune of $3000. The car still handles and rides pretty good, although a lot of little ratles from the rear suspension. I average about 25 mpg. This had been a real good car that should have no problem going over 200k miles."

"I bought it new in early 1995 and now have about 127K miles. The v6 w/ 5-speed manual tranny is smooth, quiet, zippy and gets 27-30 mpg driving to work (12 of the 23 miles on the freeway). Got a new water pump under warranty in year one. EGR port has been cleaned out twice (a "check engine" light issue), at 60K and 120K miles. Had new under-hood wiring harness, under special warranty provision, in ~year seven, due to flaky insulation. That never caused a failure, but it looked like a problem. Had new plugs, plug wires and rear brakes at 100K miles. Had an A/C hose replaced at 97K. Had a new ignition coil pack at 105K. The worst feature was the premium radio/cd, power antenna and speakers that all failed in the first five years, but they were cheap and easy to replace. The rest was routine tires, batteries, an oxygen sensor, oil and filters. The leather seats have worn well, still looking new except for the driver's that looks a little polished. Paint has weathered well, but the car has been garaged a lot. I keep it because I can't find a new car that's as much fun to drive, nor as comfortable, plus insurance is cheap. Now that the thing is nearly fully depreciated, I have dropped collision/comprehensive."
