Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 5

"We bought this car when it was only a year old with 15K miles, and it was fine for the first 6 or 7 years, up until about 75K miles. We take very good care of our cars, with regular oil/filter changes, etc. so the engine is basically still fine, but everything else is "nickle and diming" us. The transmission needed to be replaced around 90K miles, and the suspension components are problematic, with strut issues, sway bar, control arm, wheel bearing, and more. The car has needed thermostat replacements, alternator replacements, etc. The undercarriage and especially the rocker panel area are rusty, to the point where you can't put the floor jack where it's recommended, because there's no solid metal left. The interior is okay, except for where the console shift mechanism no longer registers which gear you're in (there was a manufacturer's recall on that, I believe.) I can't imagine this car can actually make it to 150K mi, like other people have said. It's seen better days, despite our regular care."

"Bought this 1996 Mystique LS with the 24 valve V6 and 5 speed manual tranny from the first owner around 1999 with 69,000 miles. The car now has over 250,000 miles and still runs great with original everything. Nothing has been rebuilt. The rest of the car at this point has been requiring fixes from the Air last year to the paint finally giving out this past year to the driver's seat quitting a couple of years ago (power). One of window motors quit working several years ago. The trunk, from day one, has always leaked, but no big deal under normal conditions. The biggest headache is the check engine light which comes on for various reasons without resolution for years, now. It doesn't affect anything, it's just there. My GM cars have never done that, with equal mileage or more. But this has been a very solid car for the money and still runs great."

"I bought this car new in 1997 for less than $19K. It has 143,000 miles and the engine runs like new. The engine does not burn or leak oil and is still as quiet as the day I bought it. I have the 5-speed and the car moves pretty good for a small V6. For the most part, I have done only routine maintainance, excpt for the ABS module going at about 100K miles to the tune of $3000. The car still handles and rides pretty good, although a lot of little ratles from the rear suspension. I average about 25 mpg. This had been a real good car that should have no problem going over 200k miles."
