We don’t blame you if you’re a little confused by the concept of an SUV coupe like the Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe. It’s a 4-door SUV with a rear hatch, but it has a sporty, coupe-like profile with a sloping roofline. So no, it isn’t a coupe in the traditional sense. The idea is to combine the utility of an SUV with the sporty style of a coupe.
Whatever you want to call it, the Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe is a high-tech luxury SUV with thrilling performance. You get a choice of a turbocharged inline-6 or a turbo V8. The 6-cylinder is good, but we highly recommend the V8 if you have the means. As fun as this SUV is to drive, it isn’t the most practical vehicle because of its tight cargo hold, cramped rear headroom, and inefficient engines.
This SUV is in a niche segment, but it has some pretty tough competition. Its chief rivals are the high-performance variants of the BMW X6, Audi Q8, and Porsche Cayenne Coupe. All of these luxury SUVs deliver their own unique blend of performance, luxury, and style, making them all worth a look if you like the idea of a sporty SUV with a sloping roofline.
2022 Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe pricing starts at $63,585 for the Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe GLE 53 Sport Utility 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $78,850 when new. The range-topping 2022 Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe AMG GLE 63 S Sport Utility 4D starts at $72,531 today, originally priced from $118,900.

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2022 Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.
The Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe is a thrilling SUV to drive. The more affordable 6-cylinder GLE 53 has a quick 0-60 mph time of 5.2 seconds, making blasts up highway on-ramps a lot of fun. Power is sent to all four wheels via an AMG Performance 4MATIC+ AWD system that can send 100% of the power to the rear wheels. The AMG Speedshift 9-speed automatic transmission delivers quick, smooth, and satisfying shifts.
AMG purists will appreciate the hand-built turbocharged V8 under the hood of the GLE 63 S Coupe. Rated at 603 horsepower, this engine delivers positively stunning performance with lightning-quick acceleration, achieving a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds. On top of the engine, this model comes with other upgrades like an electronic limited-slip differential, AMG Performance Exhaust, 6-piston front brakes, and a Race drive mode.
Both engines come with an EQ Boost mild hybrid system that adds electric torque for improved performance and efficiency.
The ride is comfortable in everyday driving conditions and agile in more spirited romps thanks to the AMG Ride Control+ air suspension that optimizes driving dynamics and comfort. Further, the AMG Dynamic Select system gives you a few drive modes that can completely change the personality of this SUV. The drive modes adjust the throttle mapping, shifting, suspension, and more to give you just the right ride in any driving condition you find yourself in.
As you might expect from a Mercedes-AMG model, the interior of this 5-passenger SUV is both classy and sporty. You have a wide range of upholstery, trim, and AMG Performance steering wheel options to choose from to make this interior your own. No matter what configuration you go with, you’re getting an interior that’s upscale and well-equipped.
Dual 12.3-inch displays come standard to create the instrument cluster and the infotainment system flowing as one big display. This is a highly customizable display, and it’s loaded with valuable features. It might be intimidating at first, but it doesn’t take long to get used to it.
This SUV is roomy and comfortable in the front seats, but the back seats suffer from cramped headroom because of the sloping roofline. Another price you pay for the coupe-like profile is a small cargo area for a midsize SUV. If you want a sporty SUV with more utility, consider the non-coupe AMG variants of the GLE-Class.
The exterior of the Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe is a bit unconventional. It’s an SUV with a coupe-like profile, making it look sportier than the average SUV. However, it still retains the elegance of a Mercedes.
The GLE 53 has a subtlety to it, but the GLE 63 S looks like the beast that it is. It has a more aggressive body kit plus massive painted brake calipers. Some exterior options are available, like a Night Package adding dark exterior accents, an illuminated Mercedes-Benz star, and more.
The dimensions of the Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe are very similar to the BMW X6 and Porsche Cayenne Coupe. It’s a little smaller than the Audi Q8.
AMG ENGINES
The turbo inline-6 and turbo V8 engines available under the hood deliver thrilling performance in this luxury SUV.

The standard infotainment system is a 12.3-inch screen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and navigation. It flows into another 12.3-inch display that serves as a customizable digital instrument cluster. Other features include five USB-C ports and Burmester premium audio.
Standard safety tech features in this SUV include active brake assist, attention assist, adaptive high-beam assist, blind-spot assist, front and rear parking sensors with active parking assist, and rain-sensing wipers.
Upgrading to the GLE 63 S gives you an astounding 603-horsepower, hand-built turbocharged V8 engine. On top of the engine upgrade, the GLE 63 S adds a Race drive mode, 6-piston front brakes, and an electronic limited-slip differential.
Some available options for both models include an AMG Night Package with dark exterior accents and a Driver Assistance Package Plus, which adds much more safety tech like adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist.
On the GLE 53, you can add an AMG Dynamic Plus Package adding Active Ride Control with roll stabilization, high-performance brakes with red calipers, the Track Pace performance data recorder, a performance steering wheel in Dinamica, and an AMG Drive Unit on the steering wheel.
There are also tons of individual options you can add to this luxury SUV, like massaging seats, the Air Balance cabin air purification and fragrance system, 4-zone climate control, a head-up display, and myriad options for wheels, interior upholstery, and the steering wheel. Trim material choices include carbon fiber, metal weave, and various woods.
There are two thrilling engines available in the Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe. The GLE 53 is powered by a turbocharged inline-6, while the GLE 63 S is motivated by a hand-built 4.0-liter turbocharged V8. Both engines are exciting, but the V8 packs a significant boost in performance compared to the inline-6.
Every GLE Coupe is equipped with an AMG Speedshift 9-speed automatic transmission and an AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system capable of sending 100% of the power to the rear wheels.
