2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB Review

Andy Bornhop

By Andy Bornhop

Updated January 30, 2025

Andy Bornhop is an author specializing in new cars, trucks, SUVs, crossovers and vans. He’s been admiring wheeled conveyances since he was kid and has been writing about them professionally since his college days. While Andy admires quality, technology, efficiency, and style, he’s also a big fan of utility, practicality and refinement, and therefore can find a Sprinter van as fascinating as a Corvette. Most important to Andy, though, is how well a vehicle responds to its driver.

It’s a relatively quiet year for the GLB, which slots above the GLA and below the GLC in the Mercedes-Benz lineup of sport-utility vehicles. The GLB 250 is powered by a turbocharged and transverse-mounted 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 221 horsepower, while the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 powers through traffic with a 302-hp version of the 2.0-liter inline-4.

Mild changes: All 2022 GLB 250 models equipped with the Premium Package now get Sirius XM Radio and a 115-volt power outlet. The Premium Package on the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 does not include the power outlet.

In other news, a USB-C Cable has been made standard on the GLB 35, and Rose Gold paint has become available. You also can order the GLB 250 with the AMG Night Package Plus, which includes black exterior badging and black louvers on the AMG grille.

While the boxy GLB is a compact luxury SUV, all models are available with an optional 3rd-row seat. While this bumps the seating capacity to seven, the 3rd row is best suited for small kids. That stated, it certainly is handy to have the extra seating when you need it.

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB Pricing

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB pricing starts at $29,167 for the GLB GLB 250 Sport Utility 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $39,650 when new. The range-topping 2022 GLB GLB 250 4MATIC Sport Utility 4D starts at $29,026 today, originally priced from $41,650.

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.

Standard Features

Standard equipment on the 2022 Mercedes GLB 250 includes 18-inch alloy wheels, the spoken “Hey, Mercedes” vehicle interface, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, Apple Carplay/Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, LED headlights, a power tailgate, and a thorough safety suite.

The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 ups the ante with the AMG-enhanced 302-hp engine and AWD system, plus a pair of 10.25-inch wide-screen displays and an AMG steering wheel with touch controls.

Factory Options

Options on the GLB 250 are numerous. They include several packages and the 3rd-row seat, plus a panoramic sunroof, adaptive suspension damping, a head-up display, a Burmester audio system, and even a lighted Mercedes star in the grille.

As for the GLB 35, it’s available with a host of items that include the 3rd-row seats, the AMG Night Package, AMG Ride Control sport suspension, and a leather-covered steering wheel with AMG controls. You can also get the AMG Track Pace app, allowing driving enthusiasts to record, analyze and evaluate vehicle data acquired at track-day events.

Engine & Transmission

What do we like best about the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine in the GLB 250? It’s not the 221 horsepower, which is more than adequate. Rather, it’s the stout 258-lb-ft of torque that arrives at 1,800 and lasts until 4,000 rpm. It gives the GLB a powerful and peppy feel, aided by a responsive 8-speed automatic transmission.

The turbo 2.0-liter in the Mercedes-AMG is even stronger. It sends 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels via an AMG-enhanced dual-clutch 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

The EPA fuel economy figures below are for the 2021 GLB, but we don’t expect the mpg to change for 2022.

2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 (GLB 250/250 4Matic)
221 horsepower @ 5,500 rpm
258 lb-ft of torque @ 1,800-4,000 rpm
EPA city/highway fuel economy (estimated): 23/31 mpg (FWD); 23/30 mpg (AWD)

2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 (GLB 35)
302 horsepower @ 5,800 rpm
295 lb-ft of torque @ 3,000-4,000 rpm
EPA city/highway fuel economy (estimated): 21/26 mpg

Annual Depreciation is an estimation of what your vehicle's value might be over time based on an average of similar vehicles. Estimations are calculated by comparing Kelley Blue Book Private Party Values of vehicles similar to yours over time, as well as forecasts from Manheim Auction data comparing current and projected auction values against current Kelley Blue Book Private Party and Trade-In Values. 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB Safety

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB Safety Technology

2021 features shown. 2022 may differ.

Active Brake Assist

Using cameras and radar, Active Brake Assist senses how quickly the GLB-Class is closing on another vehicle. If the driver doesn’t exert sufficient braking pressure to prevent a collision, the system will automatically engage maximum stopping power. This standard safety system will also apply the brakes autonomously if the driver fails to react.

Attention Assist

Drowsy driving is dangerous driving, and this standard system monitors steering and several other parameters. If it senses any drowsiness, it will suggest that the driver take a break.

Crosswind Assist

Another standard feature. Crosswind Assist helps the GLB-Class stay in its lane on gusty highways, by braking the wheels on the side of the vehicle facing the wind, while also minimizing the chance of a potential overreaction by the driver.
