If you want a 3-row, 7-passenger midsize-luxury SUV that is refined on-road yet extremely capable off-road, the 2017 Land Rover Discovery is your ticket to adventure. A newly available and easily recommendable turbodiesel engine separates the Land Rover from its most able-bodied competitor, the Lexus GX 460.
Starting over $50,000 and rising from there, the Discovery’s capabilities don’t come cheap. If you want to spend less and don’t need serious off-roading equipment, check out the Acura MDX, Volvo XC90 or Infiniti QX60. If you must have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, you’ll have to look elsewhere or wait.
