The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S is an all-electric two-row midsize SUV with a maximum range of more than 300 miles and a heavy helping of Jeep goodness. Pricing starts at $71,995.
Any mention of Jeep is more likely to conjure visions of mud and rocks than batteries and charging stations. But the march of progress goes over all terrains and has now led us to the all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S midsize SUV.
There’s a side of this celebrated marque that leans strongly toward luxury while still retaining some off-road chops. The Wagoneer S is a product of that leaning, with an equipment list in the Launch Edition that’s long and comprehensive. Other trims will follow, but buyers wanting to be the first in their canyon to own a new Wagoneer S electric SUV need to get their hands on this initial variant.
The Wagoneer S is an all-new Jeep model, a fully electric midsize SUV. It’s built on a dedicated electric vehicle platform, not the same as the other Jeep Wagoneer models — which are classified as full-size, 3-row SUVs. This Wagoneer S is more midsize and seats five.
The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S is set to go on sale in the fall of 2024.
The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S has a starting sticker price of $71,995.

The array of alternatives will only get broader as more electric SUVs come out. Right now, there’s the Tesla Model X from around $79K, with the Mercedes-EQ EQE 350 4Matic in that same ballpark. The Acura ZDX Type S comes in just below the Wagoneer S Launch Edition, while an all-wheel-drive Cadillac Lyriq begins at about $63K.
Before buying a new Wagoneer S electric SUV, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. It’s too soon to talk Wagoneer S resale values, but it’s never a bad time for a reminder that recouping more money when you sell a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on your next one.
The standard offering in the 2024 Wagoneer S Launch Edition is a considerable 600 horsepower and 617 lb-ft of torque, developed by two electric motors and going to all four wheels, as befitting of a Jeep. Standstill to 60 mph happens in just 3.4 seconds, blisteringly quick for a midsize SUV. The Tesla Model X comes close with 3.8 seconds from 670 hp. The new-for-2024 Acura ZDX Type S hits 60 mph in four seconds, thanks to 499 hp. And the 500-hp Cadillac Lyriq is only about a half second behind that.
Maximum towing capacity is 3,400 pounds. A typical gasoline-driven midsize SUV (like a Honda Pilot) can usually pull up to 5,000 pounds. Towing will also affect an electric vehicle’s range, of course.
This isn’t your rough-and-tumble Wrangler. The new Jeep Wagoneer S SUV aims at a different audience, one that appreciates the plusher things in life. Unlike the usual Wagoneer models, there’s only seating for five, i.e., no third row. The Launch Edition features four screens, though: a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch main touchscreen for the infotainment system, a 10.25-inch unit for the dual-zone climate control, and a 10.25-inch display for the front passenger.
There’s also a rotary control for the automatic transmission and amenities like heated/ventilated seats in both rows, ambient LED cabin lighting, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof.
Rear legroom measures 38 inches, an inch or so shorter than some rivals, yet still sufficient for adults of average size. The cargo area goes from 30.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats to 61 cubic feet with them folded down, which is definitely competitive. Under the hood is another three cubic feet of storage space.
Although the Wagoneer S shares its name with other Jeep Wagoneer models, it’s built on its own dedicated EV platform and is not a full-size SUV like its namesake but more of a midsize model. At 16 feet long, it’s a couple of inches shorter than a BMW X5, for example.
In matters of style, the new Wagoneer S looks like a Jeep from the near future, which is more or less what it is. It still has an interpretation of the famed 7-slot grille but is adorned with LED lighting. The profile brings plenty of pizazz to the SUV genre. The Launch Edition’s roof comes with a Gloss Black finish.
McIntosh audio
The new 2024 Wagoneer S Launch Edition comes standard with a 19-speaker/1,200-watt McIntosh system — one of the finest audio brands to come from the United States.
Digital rearview mirror
The relatively sleek rear treatment of the Wagoneer S body might limit rearward visibility. If that’s the case, we’ll all appreciate this digital rearview mirror, which shows a clear image out the back, unencumbered by bodywork or bodies. It’s standard in the Launch Edition.
Head-up display
This is yet another standard feature in the initial 2024 Wagoneer S model, projecting vital information (jet fighter-style) onto the windshield directly in front of the driver.
Power-adjustable steering column with memory
We always feel that it’s a proper luxury vehicle whenever we see this. We know this kind of thing has been around for years, but that doesn’t make it any less useful.
Massaging front seats
These are also common in luxury vehicles and are no less comfy. We love a quick massage on a long journey.
Selec-Terrain Traction Management
We’re glad to see Jeep retaining some of its traditional values even in this brave new electric world. The company has equipped the Wagoneer S SUV with a 5-mode system that includes settings for snow and sand.
Jeep says the new Wagoneer S has a maximum range of more than 300 miles, which compares well with its rivals. The Tesla Model X is capable of 335 miles, the Acura ZDX is rated for 313 miles, the Cadillac Lyriq with all-wheel drive can run for 307 miles, and the Mercedes-EQ EQE 350 4Matic achieves 265 miles.
The Wagoneer S Launch Edition has a 400-volt setup, enabling relatively quick charging times — from 20% to 80% in about 23 minutes using a DC fast charger. That’s on the fast side.
Jeep’s new-vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles. These are typical terms. Jeep also provides a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty for batteries in its hybrid models, so we’re expecting something similar with the battery in the new Wagoneer S SUV.
Standard safety features in the Wagoneer S Launch Edition electric SUV include a 360-degree camera system, self-parking, intersection assistance, and active lane keeping.
